User Defined Indexes (UDI)
User Defined Indexes
A User Defined Index, or UDI, is a special kind of index.
A UDI is an index that is not linked directly to a data object (i.e., a data base
field, or column). Instead, the user application supplies the data that
is stored in the index; and the user application controls the index build
and update process.
Some examples of UDIs are:
1) A data base field with multiple tokens, where each token is to be indexed;
2) A Memo field or BLOB;
3) An external document, such as a Word document or a URL;
4) A virtual column;
