A recent article published in FEI Daily makes the critical point that “Both HR and finance need each other’s data to understand the implications of people-related decisions across the organization”. The HR and Finance functions in many organizations are siloed, and the sharing of data can be narrow or nonexistent, limiting business leaders from gaining valuable insights and making more informed business decisions. WhamTech is currently working with a large global IT services company to solve the challenges of bridging these silos both internally across multiple service lines as well as to their external customers through the implementation of WhamTech SmartData Fabric® (SDF).
SDF leverages near real-time updateable indexed-based adapters to federate access to, virtualize data views into, and integrate data from data sources, including those belonging to HR and Finance. Internal leaders and/or external customers can use SDF to either access these data sources independently or as a combination with standard data views, workflows, and applications such as reporting, BI and analytics. SDF enables the entire data management value-add process from device and data discovery to insight. Although less of an issue with HR and finance data, as there are usually common IDs used, WhamTech also includes a seamless and automatic integration of Master Data Management (MDM) as part of the SDF. MDM plus integration provides a virtual data warehouse environment that supports self-serve reporting, BI and analytics. In addition, WhamTech is renowned for its access and data security capabilities, including multi-domain single sign-on (SSO), event processing and near real-time updates. New workflows can be built on legacy HR and finance systems using open source and commercial Business Process Management (BPM) software. Other data sources, such as project proposals, planning and tracking, are being added.
The successful business outcomes are (i) an increase in capabilities and proposal capture through improved resource planning, (ii) a reduction in costs of resources deployed on projects due to more efficient workflows, (iii) improved data security due to enforced SSO role-and-user-based access control across partner organizations and imposed data encryption, (iv) improved self-serve reporting, BI and analytics, including AI and machine learning that provide deep insight across organizations on projects and resources, and (v) reducing the resources required for highly-skilled data engineers, scientists and business analysts to implement, tending towards automation.
